From Response to Reality: EMS Lessons from the Carowinds Active Violence Exercise

Corbin Hyland serves as the Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure Branch Manager for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office, where he leads regional initiatives focused on homeland security, critical infrastructure protection, radiological emergency preparedness, cybersecurity, and active violence planning. He has extensive experience managing large-scale exercises and incidents involving local, state, federal, and Department of Defense partners, including regional active violence exercises, nuclear preparedness operations, and major special events.
In addition to his emergency management leadership role, Corbin is a certified Paramedic, Nationally Registered Paramedic, and Certified Tactical Paramedic serving with Stanly County EMS and supporting tactical law enforcement operations. He holds a Master of Science in Security Studies from East Carolina University. Corbin is also an IAEM Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), North Carolina Executive Emergency Manager, and a graduate of the FEMA National Emergency Management Advanced Academy.
