Summary:

The EMS Training Officer Workshop is an intensive one-day professional development course designed to prepare current and aspiring EMS Training Officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead, develop, and evaluate effective training programs within their organizations. Participants will explore the roles and responsibilities of the Training Officer while examining leadership principles, instructional strategies, documentation requirements, and regulatory considerations. The course will emphasize adult learning principles, scenario-based education, coaching and mentoring techniques, and methods for evaluating training effectiveness. Emerging technologies and current trends in EMS education will also be discussed to help Training Officers build innovative and sustainable training programs that support provider competency, operational readiness, and organizational success.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the roles, responsibilities, and leadership expectations of an EMS Training Officer within an EMS organization.
  2. Identify strategies for developing a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous professional improvement within an EMS agency.
  3. Develop measurable training objectives and educational plans that align with operational and organizational goals.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate methods for maintaining training records, continuing education documentation, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  5. Apply adult learning principles and instructional techniques to improve learner engagement and educational effectiveness.
  6. Construct scenario-based and simulation training activities designed to enhance clinical decision-making and provider competency.
  7. Evaluate training effectiveness using assessment tools, performance metrics, and coaching techniques to improve individual and organizational performance.
