Lights, Sirens, Simulation: Training for the Real Thing

Karla Brown is a dedicated EMS leader with two decades of experience in prehospital emergency care, education, and operational leadership. Currently serving as Captain of Education & Compliance for Cabarrus County EMS, she leads system-wide training initiatives, credentialing programs, compliance oversight, and professional development efforts for EMS personnel.
Karla has built her career on a commitment to clinical excellence, workforce development, and continuous quality improvement. Her experience includes development and delivery of innovative educational programs, coordinated continuing education, and mentored the next generation of EMS professionals. She played an instrumental role in achieving a provisional accreditation in simulation for Cabarrus County EMS from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the Council for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs.
Known for her collaborative leadership style, strong clinical judgment, and passion for professional growth, Karla works closely with EMS leadership, educational institutions, and medical directors to advance evidence-based practice and strengthen EMS system performance. She is recognized for her ability to engage audiences, foster meaningful learning experiences, and inspire excellence in patient care.
Her dedication to education, innovation, and compassionate service continues to shape the future of EMS in North Carolina. In addition to her daily work at Cabarrus County EMS, she also serves as North Carolina’s NAEMT Advocacy Coordinator.
